DIET & EXERCISE. Those are two words I tend to hear and think of very often. Maybe a little too often if I'm being honest.
The majority of my 20s has been spent gaining weight and losing only a fraction of the amount I gained over time. In a few days I'm going to be turning 30! The big 3-0!!! Most may feel sad that they're saying goodbye to their "young" years but fuck it. I'm so excited to start a new chapter of my life! To prepare myself for this milestone birthday, I've finally decided to take my health and physical appearance seriously. About damn time Dee!
Over the course of one month, I've completely transformed my way of thinking in regards to DIET & EXERCISE. By doing so, I started holding myself accountable and then I finally figured out a science to help lose the weight and feel slightly better about myself. Today, I'm going to share my stats and my methods to losing stubborn weight and feeling more confident on this journey.
During the month of September I've put in the work and I'm happy to report I'm finally seeing the results of my hard work. When I stepped on the scale sometime over the summer and saw that I weighed 170lbs I was devastated. Like literally devastated... I even gave up on the idea that I would ever be smaller than 170lbs. I also considered tossing out our scale. I knew if I didn't do anything about that number and the way I felt soon, that it'd be too hard for me to get myself in a better place.
I finally figured out that it was my way of thinking that was holding me back. It truly was my inability to hold myself accountable that held me down. It was also the lack of support I had for myself that blocked me from pushing through when the going got tough. Once I viewed DIET & EXERCISE as my "me time" it became something I wanted to include in my daily life.
Four weeks in, I've lost about 10lbs! I know that may seem like a lot in a short amount of time but it was never my plan. I planned on changing my lifestyle with hopes the numbers would change and it actually did. Go figures! I never even imagined that a big number like 10 would be something I can possibly achieve in less than six months. So how did I do it? I used a mixture of 3 methods for my lifestyle change.
First, I needed to commit to intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting for me meant simply restricting myself from eating unless it was during the hours I allowed myself to consume solids. An example of this would be eating during the hours of 11am-7pm and fasting and drinking liquids outside of those hours.
Second, I needed to make exercise a priority. As a busy mama I don't want to make the time to go to gyms or plan to have an hour or so to work out. If I did that, I would lose time I had for myself and that's not something I am willing to give up. So instead, I made walking my new means of exercise. Any and everywhere that I can walk to I will. And without thinking and scheduling exercise in, I now have made the lifestyle change to become more active and this has essentially brought me so much joy because it's my time to do something for me.
Last but not least, I want to keep up with the basics. Sometimes when people go on a health kick they forget the basics and fail miserably. So no matter what stage I'm in on this journey, I make sure to remember the basics and always start small so I can give myself room to build up.
Here are my 5 easy steps to how I lost about 10lbs in one month. Let's not forget the basics!
How to lose weight by intermittent fasting and light exercise:
1. always follow the signs of your body and what it needs
2. be forgiving yet disciplined
3. deprivation is a sure key to fail and failing hard
4. make small changes that will support a complete lifestyle change
5. make the change
Common sense way to lose weight:
1. drink water
2. mind your business
3. make time for you
I plan to post a couple videos on this over on my YouTube channel. Specifically, I will share what I eat in a day while intermittent fasting to give you guys some ideas if you're interested. I'll also be documenting my weight loss journey and lifestyle change moving forward now that I see numbers I'm proud of and want to share. If you enjoyed this post, I hope you stick around.
